Kentish Express Ashford & District - - FAMILY ANNOUNCEMENTS -

ONE woman has been campaigning against foreign lorries since 2000 after discovering human excrement and urine at Orbital Park and in lay-bys around the town. Margaret Pryke, 67, of Canterbury Road is known as the “lorry lady” around Ashford because of all her efforts in getting restrictions put in place to ban lorry drivers from causing a mess in the area. She handed in a 1,000signature petition to the European Parliament in 2005 and receives yearly progress updates. “We don’t seem to be moving very fast,” she said. “The European Parliament is putting pressure on the UK government and KCC highways to sort out places for lorries to park so they can keep within their legal hours.” Mrs Pryke said bags of human excrement and bottles of urine could be found strewn about Orbital Park. “KCC has to find land to build a proper lorry park with toilet and shower facilities,” she added. Mrs Pryke has vowed to continue her campaign.
