Guests have a ball in aid of hospice fund

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - FAMILY ANNOUNCEMENTS -

SOUL group The Three Degrees were the star attraction at a glamorous charity ball at Godmersham Park. The splendid venue, once home to Jane Austen’s brother, was an ideal spot for the Demelza May Ball which attracted more than 500 guests. Sponsored by the Ashfordbased Brakes Group, the party saw guests enjoy champagne on the mansion lawns at sunset then a sumptuous supper in the beautifully decorated marquee. An auction raised more than £25,000, with lots including a day with a personal shopper at Fenwick in New Bond Street, and a Renoir etching. James Hanaway, Demelza’s director of fund-raising and the ball’s master of ceremonies, said: “The generosity of sponsors and other Demelza supporters, meant that the ball raised more than £100,000, all of which will go to help the children and their families.”
