FOLKESTONE Race­course is throw­ing open its gates from July 5 to 8, for those who want to watch the Tour De France cy­cle race.

Com­peti­tors will be rac­ing along Stone Street dur­ing the Kent leg of the event and the race­course will of­fer prime views.

Spectators can camp at the race­course from Thurs­day, July 5, un­til Sun­day, July 8, the day the cy­clists will go through Kent to fin­ish in Can­ter­bury.

The 2007 stage one route be­gins just af­ter 8.30am in Lon­don and goes through West­min­ster, Green­wich, Wool­wich, Erith, Dart­ford and Gravesend.

It then goes through Med­way, Maid­stone, Ton­bridge, Tun­bridge Wells, Ten­ter­den, Ash­ford and Stone Street, right past Folkestone Race­course, and fi­nally into Can­ter­bury for the fin­ish at about 2.15pm.

Or­gan­is­ers an­tic­i­pate more than three mil­lion peo­ple will line the streets to en­joy the first leg of the Tour.

The cost for a pitch at the race­course will be be­tween £18 and £25.
