JONATHAN Higgs, pros­e­cut­ing, said that Sparks met the vic­tim who was later to die of a drugs over­dose in a night­club in Ash­ford in De­cem­ber 1994. Sparks raped the wo­man, then aged 20, in Jan­uary 1995. He was ag­gres­sive to­wards her and was “out of con­trol” be­fore forc­ing her to have sex. He ad­mit­ted as­sault caus­ing ac­tual bod­ily harm, rape and mak­ing threats. Sparks also started a re­la­tion­ship with a girl aged 17 af­ter they met at Gilling­ham ice rink. Then liv­ing in Folkestone, Sparks be­came vi­o­lent to the girl, threat­ened to kill her and had un­pro­tected sex with her against her will. He ad­mit­ted rape and as­sault caus­ing ac­tual bod­ily harm. The court heard that in April 1995, Sparks had un­law­ful sex with a 14-year-old girl in sta­bles af­ter driv­ing her there in his BMW. The girl said that Sparks knew her age. He ad­mit­ted un­law­ful sex­ual in­ter­course with the girl. The search for Sparks in­volved po­lice in Kent, Es­sex, Lin­colnshire, Hert­ford­shire and Le­ices­ter­shire. He as­sumed the alias David El­lis and used his grand­mother’s care home as a mail­ing ad­dress but was dis­cov­ered in Le­ices­ter liv­ing with his girl­friend.
