JONATHAN Higgs, prosecuting, said that Sparks met the victim who was later to die of a drugs overdose in a nightclub in Ashford in December 1994. Sparks raped the woman, then aged 20, in January 1995. He was aggressive towards her and was “out of control” before forcing her to have sex. He admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, rape and making threats. Sparks also started a relationship with a girl aged 17 after they met at Gillingham ice rink. Then living in Folkestone, Sparks became violent to the girl, threatened to kill her and had unprotected sex with her against her will. He admitted rape and assault causing actual bodily harm. The court heard that in April 1995, Sparks had unlawful sex with a 14-year-old girl in stables after driving her there in his BMW. The girl said that Sparks knew her age. He admitted unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl. The search for Sparks involved police in Kent, Essex, Lincolnshire, Hertfordshire and Leicestershire. He assumed the alias David Ellis and used his grandmother’s care home as a mailing address but was discovered in Leicester living with his girlfriend.
