Ready for a month of great music
ASHFORD is preparing for a month-long festival of fun, with July packed with summer sounds. It kicks off on Ashford Jazz Festival weekend when BBC jazz vocalist of the year Liane Carroll appears at Oranges Cafe Bar on Friday, July 6. The following day the town centre will be swinging with cool traditional and modern music performed by Canterbury Jazz Pilgrims, the Jazz Advocates, Strings and Things and many more. The Sunday evening concert in St Mary’s parish church will feature Quintetville Plus, a sextet featuring Colin Welch and Ed Mayo plus a guest star, and Fletch, a renowned jazz quartet. The town centre streets will be presenting the tastes, smells and sights of Europe with a food fair to greet the Tour de France on Sunday, July 8, and the following weekend will see the annual Folk and Country day with traditional dance groups on Saturday and the Carnival parade on the Sunday. The third Festival in the Park in the Stour Centre grounds will feature a wide variety of local talent taking to the stage over the weekend of July 21 and 22 and the 12th Create Music festival for Ashford-based bands will be held in Victoria Park on Sunday, July 29.
