Ready for a month of great mu­sic

ASH­FORD is pre­par­ing for a month-long fes­ti­val of fun, with July packed with sum­mer sounds. It kicks off on Ash­ford Jazz Fes­ti­val week­end when BBC jazz vo­cal­ist of the year Liane Car­roll ap­pears at Or­anges Cafe Bar on Fri­day, July 6. The fol­low­ing day the town cen­tre will be swing­ing with cool tra­di­tional and mod­ern mu­sic per­formed by Can­ter­bury Jazz Pil­grims, the Jazz Ad­vo­cates, Strings and Things and many more. The Sun­day evening con­cert in St Mary’s parish church will fea­ture Quin­tetville Plus, a sex­tet fea­tur­ing Colin Welch and Ed Mayo plus a guest star, and Fletch, a renowned jazz quar­tet. The town cen­tre streets will be pre­sent­ing the tastes, smells and sights of Europe with a food fair to greet the Tour de France on Sun­day, July 8, and the fol­low­ing week­end will see the an­nual Folk and Coun­try day with tra­di­tional dance groups on Satur­day and the Car­ni­val pa­rade on the Sun­day. The third Fes­ti­val in the Park in the Stour Cen­tre grounds will fea­ture a wide variety of lo­cal tal­ent tak­ing to the stage over the week­end of July 21 and 22 and the 12th Cre­ate Mu­sic fes­ti­val for Ash­ford-based bands will be held in Vic­to­ria Park on Sun­day, July 29.
