IT’S A DOG’S LIFE: Top to tail pampering at luxury dog spa
LUCKY Missy the dog. For her birthday, her owner booked her in for a pamper at the Waglife Spa in Folkestone’s Old High Street. Jane Jemmett and partner Annemieke Hartman, started an online store two years ago, stocking everything the discerning dog owner with a taste for luxuries could desire. But a trip to New York convinced the pair, themselves devoted to their cairn terriers Archie and Ally, to go a step further and open a venue that offered more than the average poodle parlour. Dogs are welcomed into the spa, opened with the help of the Creative Foundation, to the soothing sounds of music only audible to canine ears. They enjoy a comb and a brush, wash with a special shampoo and conditioner developed by a brand better known in hairdressing, a towel dry and clip. A nail file is also used and after a final brush, followed by a treat, the new-look dog is returned to its owner, thoroughly spoiled. Groomer Emma Gomez is also qualified in animal care and can advise owners on all aspects of pet care. Waglife works with an animal behaviourist Pippa Ducat, who can help with any unusual antics.
