The Multidimensional Treatment Foster Programme (MTF) and Therapeutic Reparenting scheme (TRP) have been operating in Kent for the last two and three years respectively. Both run on a small scale. The MTF has a capacity for just nine children, while that of the TRP is 15. It is hoped this will expand with more funding. The MTF is based on an American system developed in Oregon. It works by closely supervising and assessing the behaviour of troubled children using a detailed system of checks. Foster parents are given close support by social workers. The TRP educates foster parents about how to deal with children with traumatic pasts, and provides them with a very close support network. It focuses on making sure children stay in one foster home, rather than moving around. Kent County Council is always on the lookout for new foster parents. Anyone who is interested should call 0845 330 2968, or visit www.kent.gov.uk/fostering
