Traffic lights are ‘needed’
TRAFFIC lights will be needed at the M20 junction 10 roundabout for public safety, the county’s cabinet member for highways claims.
At a meeting of Kent County Council’s cabinet last week, borough and county councillor George Koowaree (Lib Dem) asked Cllr Keith Ferrin whether he was in support of this newspaper’s campaign to review the use of the traffic lights when the roadworks are completed.
In response, Cllr Ferrin (Con) said he believed the traffic lights would be necessary but could be altered.
“I have a great deal of sympathy with the users,” he said. “I’m pleased the Highways Agency has said it will review the need for traffic lights and at a recent meeting with them, they said it was under consideration.
“However, with the pedestrian bridge through the junction, there will be a need for signals to help pedestrians cross safely. It may be however, that these signals could be at peak time only.”
