BEASTLY FUN: Young­sters en­joy a close look at wildlife

YOUNG na­ture en­thu­si­asts went on the hunt for minibeasts dur­ing a gar­den­ing day. Chil­dren aged be­tween seven and 14 en­joyed an af­ter­noon of ac­tiv­i­ties at Trim­worth Gar­dens in Crun­dale. Ac­tiv­i­ties in­cluded pond dip­ping, studyin­gin­sects and look­ing at the trees and flow­ers in the gar­dens. The event be­gan with a talk by Harri Gold­smith of the Ken­tish Stour Coun­try­side Project, fol­lowed by a long walk and a plas­tic duck race along the river. Or­gan­iser Richard Good­e­nough is chair­man of the God­mer­sham and Crun­dale Gar­den­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion. He said: “The aim is to try to en­cour­age young peo­ple to take an in­ter­est in gar­den­ing, wildlife and con­ser­va­tion. “Th­ese young­sters had a great time and it was fan­tas­tic to see them so ex­cited when they dis­cov­ered a new crea­ture.”
