Jail for man who said prison a play­ground

A MAN who told po­lice that prison was a play­ground and mag­is­trates were a joke, has been jailed for al­most three months.

Michael McKeane, 23, of no fixed abode, ap­peared at Ash­ford Mag­is­trates Court where he ad­mit­ted us­ing threat­en­ing and in­sult­ing words and be­hav­iour when an in­ci­dent broke out in Mil­ton Road, Ash­ford, on April 10.

The court heard how McKeane be­came ag­gres­sive af­ter an ar­gu­ment with his fam­ily and was shout­ing and swear­ing.


Peter Holt, pros­e­cut­ing, said: “At one point he said he had a knife and was re­strained by po­lice.

“He said he didn’t mind go­ing back to prison be­cause ‘it’s like a play school’. He said the mag­is­trates are a joke, wouldn’t do any­thing and that he wouldn’t go to prison for this.”

He was sen­tenced to serve 80 days in cus­tody.
