TALES OF DEDICATION

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OFF THE RECORD -

ANOTHER stalwart volunteer, Christine Pledger, has produced a booklet From Small Beginnings, based on the experiences of the Folkestone fund-raising group. It is more than 30 years since she first became involved in the campaign to open a hospice and in spite of constant threats to retire she is still active, supporting the charity as president of the Folkestone group. She said: “I realised there must now be few people who were in at the start and felt the story of our early struggles and activities should be recorded, although it is by no means a complete history.” Her brief history of events in Shepway district, leading to the establishment of east Kent’s first Hospice, is not priced but anyone interested in reading her tale can do so for a minimum suggested donation of £2 to the charity.
