A brilliant start to the season

A RECORD turnout for Ashford Tri Club at the East Grinstead Triathlon was a great way to kick off the 2007 season.

The 14 eager Ashford Tri Club members competed in the 400strong field with grit and determination.

The strong winds of the previous day had largely died down, and conditions were cool and yet somewhat damp.

Ian Port led the way for the club with an impressive swim split of 0:07:37, hot on his heals were Simon Scott and Andrew Barwise both within a minute of Ian as they exited the swim phase.

In the end Ian’s strong bike and steady run ensured he finished as the leading Ashford club member with a time of 1: 21:59, followed closely by Jan Pospisil, who posted the quickest run split of the day.

Liz King was the quickest Ashford Tri Club female competitor posting a very respectable time of 01:30:40, with a swim split which beat most of the club’s male competitors, not bad for an athlete who normally concentrates on IronMan distances.

Overall a very positive start to the triathlon season for the club.

The next key event for the Ashford Tri Club is the second Connells Friday 5km run on Friday June 1 at Victoria Park.
