MORE than 60 family and friends joined nurse Heather Wynter on her 50th birthday on Sunday, but it wasn’t just to celebrate. The mother of five led the team from her home in Arcon Close, South Ashford, on a 16-mile sponsored cycle to raise money for cancer charities, and despite the drizzle, they all declared it worthwhile. The cycle ride followed a birthday party for 300 guests at Ashford International hotel on Friday. Heather hopes the two events raised £5,000, with more sponsorship cash to be collected. The final figure will be split between two charities close to her heart. Two years ago widow Heather was diagnosed with bowel cancer and although the William Harvey staff nurse is now in remission and back on the wards she wanted to mark her birthday by helping other sufferers. All the proceeds will be going to Beating Bowel Cancer and Odyssey for young people suffering with the disease.
