HOW THE SYSTEM IS TO WORK
For the whole of the Willesborough interchange, the volume and movement of traffic will influence the signals. A database at a control centre will take into account the traffic movements likely to occur. This will help determine the appropriate signal timings.
At the junction of the M20 London-bound carriageway, the timing of signals will be decided according to demands around the junction. For example, it will be considered whether it is more efficient to keep a particular approach on a green light for longer, when queues have been detected on other approaches.
