Friendly staff help serve up a victory
CAFE Belge has been crowned south and east Kent’s restaurant of the year.
The restaurant, in St Dunstan’s, Canterbury, was voted into the top three by readers of the Kent Messenger Group’s Tasty magazine and then impressed the judges with its wide menu and professional and friendly staff.
Readers shortlisted Cafe Belge, the Wheel at Westwell, near Ashford, and The Woolpack at Brookland on Romney Marsh.
“Those who voted set us a really difficult task,” said a spokesman for the judges.
“The finalists were all very different and all excelled at what they did.
“The Woolpack is a fantastic old pub, really welcoming, with good, hearty, traditional pub food and a great range of Shepherd Neame beers.
“The Wheel at Westwell has a more modern menu carried off with style and yet still feels like a good old English village pub.”
In the end, Cafe Belge came out on top. It was the breadth of the menu and the quality of the staff that won the day for the restaurant.
Delighted owner Gary Bush said: “We’d like to thank everyone who voted for us for their continued support. It’s wonderful. And I’d like to thank the staff, who are so dedicated.”
