Folkestone NHS Retirement Fellowship Last week 32 members enjoyed a lunch and social at the Red Lion, Hythe. Incorporated with the trip was to visit the museum, and the Bronze Age boat at Dover. The fantastic afternoon excursion culminated with a tea and chat at the Dickens restaurant. The fellowship welcomes anyone who has worked for the NHS along with partners, to meetings held on the third Thursday monthly in Holy Trinity church hall at 2.15pm. Scheduled for Thursday, July 19, Barbara Stevens will be the speaker on the subject Calendar Girls. At the session on Thursday, June 21, Frankie Jeans will be the guest speaker on the topic Monologues. The National Trust - Tenterden and District Association At the last meeting Anthea Bryant gave an illustrated talk entitled Spirits of Place. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 14, in Tenterden junior school, Recreation Ground Road at 7.30pm. Susan Jenkinson will give an illustrated talk entitled London Statues of the Famous and Forgotten. Visitors will be welcomed. Recent events have included a visit to Spencer House together with a Thames River trip. Future events include an outing on Friday, July 6 to Hampton Court flower show. A bouquet was presented to Jane Graham, for achieving the Citizen of the Year award for Brabourne. The village fete is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, in which the institute will be manning stalls for a tombola and second-hand books. Additional contributions will be welcomed at the next meeting. A top team quiz side has been arranged with the contest on Thursday, June 7 at Lymne. A celebratory 89th birthday special tea has been arranged for Friday, June 29 at Lathe Barn at 3pm. An outing takes place on Wednesday, August 1 to Brook Museum and the Honest Miller. The resolution, Closure of Community Hospitals was discussed at length. There was an unanimous decision in favour of the motion, to be put to the delegates at the annual meeting next month in London. As a change from the norm, cheese and wine was served. Daisy demonstrated artistic skills with feelings in painting flowers on different articles. Members viewed paints and brushes and methods. Pam showed lace work and members observed as a pattern evolved from pins, cotton and bobbins. Before going home, announced was results of competition E and answers to the April quiz. Members were given the latest quiz. At the meeting on Monday, June 11, Mrs J. Bryant will be demonstrating Pot Pourri. The contest letter will be F. Warehorne Folk Dance Group Meetings are held on Wednesdays in Kingsnorth Village Hall from 8pm to 10pm. David Herrick will give members information about the borough council’s House-proud scheme at the meeting on Thursday, June 14. There will be a sales table, raffle and refreshments. Entry £1.
