Folkestone NHS Re­tire­ment Fel­low­ship Last week 32 mem­bers en­joyed a lunch and so­cial at the Red Lion, Hythe. In­cor­po­rated with the trip was to visit the mu­seum, and the Bronze Age boat at Dover. The fan­tas­tic af­ter­noon ex­cur­sion cul­mi­nated with a tea and chat at the Dick­ens restau­rant. The fel­low­ship wel­comes any­one who has worked for the NHS along with part­ners, to meet­ings held on the third Thurs­day monthly in Holy Trin­ity church hall at 2.15pm. Sched­uled for Thurs­day, July 19, Bar­bara Stevens will be the speaker on the sub­ject Cal­en­dar Girls. At the ses­sion on Thurs­day, June 21, Frankie Jeans will be the guest speaker on the topic Mono­logues. The Na­tional Trust - Ten­ter­den and Dis­trict As­so­ci­a­tion At the last meet­ing Anthea Bryant gave an il­lus­trated talk en­ti­tled Spir­its of Place. The next meet­ing will be held on Thurs­day, June 14, in Ten­ter­den ju­nior school, Re­cre­ation Ground Road at 7.30pm. Susan Jenk­in­son will give an il­lus­trated talk en­ti­tled Lon­don Stat­ues of the Fa­mous and Forgotten. Vis­i­tors will be wel­comed. Re­cent events have in­cluded a visit to Spencer House to­gether with a Thames River trip. Fu­ture events in­clude an out­ing on Fri­day, July 6 to Hamp­ton Court flower show. A bou­quet was pre­sented to Jane Gra­ham, for achiev­ing the Cit­i­zen of the Year award for Brabourne. The vil­lage fete is sched­uled for Satur­day, June 16, in which the in­sti­tute will be man­ning stalls for a tombola and sec­ond-hand books. Ad­di­tional con­tri­bu­tions will be wel­comed at the next meet­ing. A top team quiz side has been ar­ranged with the con­test on Thurs­day, June 7 at Lymne. A cel­e­bra­tory 89th birth­day spe­cial tea has been ar­ranged for Fri­day, June 29 at Lathe Barn at 3pm. An out­ing takes place on Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 1 to Brook Mu­seum and the Hon­est Miller. The res­o­lu­tion, Clo­sure of Com­mu­nity Hos­pi­tals was dis­cussed at length. There was an unan­i­mous de­ci­sion in favour of the mo­tion, to be put to the del­e­gates at the an­nual meet­ing next month in Lon­don. As a change from the norm, cheese and wine was served. Daisy demon­strated artis­tic skills with feel­ings in paint­ing flow­ers on dif­fer­ent ar­ti­cles. Mem­bers viewed paints and brushes and meth­ods. Pam showed lace work and mem­bers ob­served as a pat­tern evolved from pins, cot­ton and bob­bins. Be­fore go­ing home, an­nounced was re­sults of com­pe­ti­tion E and an­swers to the April quiz. Mem­bers were given the latest quiz. At the meet­ing on Mon­day, June 11, Mrs J. Bryant will be demon­strat­ing Pot Pourri. The con­test let­ter will be F. Ware­horne Folk Dance Group Meet­ings are held on Wed­nes­days in Kingsnorth Vil­lage Hall from 8pm to 10pm.
