Star gardeners reap reward

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - News -

BETHERSDEN gardeners again proved ace growers as they retained the Tenterden challenge trophy they won last year for the best box of produce. They won the challenge to host the event against five other horticultural societies on Saturday at the annual autumn flower, fruit and vegetable show in the village hall. Organiser Joyce Draper reported increased interest in the event that was well supported in all classes with top quality vegetable and floral exhibits, and good floral art and home cooking entries. There was also increased support from junior members including 11-year-old Ashley Buckley with a winning cake, and veteran Cliff Burton who baked the winning rock cakes. It was no surprise that Herbert Burton was again among the winners with his prize-winning leeks.
