STORIES of courage in the face of adversity brought tears to many in the audience at an awards ceremony. Sky News’s Charlotte Hawkins hosted the ceremony for the fifth Ward & Partners Children’s Annual Awards at the Ramada Hotel and Resort, Hollingbourne, near Maidstone, on Friday. Among the three winners in the Exceptional Carer Awards category was Anna Constable, 10, from Folkestone who copes with far more than most young children of her age. Anna helps care for her parents and younger sister June, who all have minor learning difficulties, as well her brother Shane, seven, who is severely autistic. Her mother, Sharmaine Constable said: “She’s great around the house. She does things like helping to get Shane’s bath ready and changing June’s nappies. “We’re really proud of her.” After prizes were presented in a variety of different categories, guests were treated to a moving performance by young people from the Royal School for Deaf Children in Margate.
