First win for Romney side
BROMLEY GREEN fell to a third defeat of the season in the Vandanel Kent County League Premier Division on Saturday, losing 2-1 at Orpington. Ryan Smith was the Green scorer.
New Romney secured their first points in Division 1 East, beating Oakwood 1-0 through a Joe Biddle strike.
Kennington had no league fixture to fulfil, but Lydd Town’s break from league action ended in a 2-1 defeat to Guru Nanak, in round one of the Bill Manklow Inter-Regional Challenge Cup. Kevin Bennet’s was on the score sheet for Town.
In Division 2 East, a Matt Tomkins hat-trick paved the way for Tenterden Town to claim their first win of the new campaign, 4-2 over Saga Sports & Social. Simon Bourne was the other Town scorer.
The Ashford derby in Reserves East saw Bromley Green beat Kennington 6-3. Ashley Webster’s hat-trick was added to by Lee Norton, Tom Poynter and an own goal as Green moved up to fourth in the table.
Kennington’s consolations came from Luke Sergeant (2) and Mark Hughes as they continue to struggle. New Romney reserves also continued to struggle as they lost 3-2 at Larkfield.
HAMSTREET twice came from behind to beat Hope Inn 5-2 in the Ashford and District Saturday League, with two goals from Andy Trott.
Mark Jones fired Hope ahead only for Trott to level and then Billy Weir restored Hope’s lead.
Despite missing a penalty goals from Arron McGuinness and Trott proved decisive as Hamstreet turn round 3-2 up and they added further goals from Darren Wharburton and Shay McGuinness while Hope saw a penalty for them saved by Adam Roffey.
Despite strikes by Charlie Porter and Tom Bushell Bethersden went down at home to Lydd A 32.
A well-contested premier match between Rolvenden and Ocean ended goalless. Jack Rowley was outstanding for Rolvenden only to thwarted by some outstanding saves from the Ocean goalkeeper.
In Division 1 there was a 1-1 stalemate betwen Riverside and Tenterden Reserves.
Manual Namani gave Tenterden the lead from the penalty spot for a fairly harsh handball but Adam nasfield struck to earn Riverside a point.
Wittersham won 1-0 at New Romney 3rds with a last goal and Stuart Paerson netted twice in Woodchurch’s 5-2 win over Ship Inn.
Rhys Prior, David Taylor and Pearson saw them lead 4-0 with Pearson’s second an extravagant cross/shot that looped over the keeper.
Ship fought back with goals from Andy Norris and Jack Garner for 4-2 but despite further heavy pressure conceded a fifth to Dan Charnell with the final kick of the game.
