SUPER fit part-time firefighters from Wye are used to facing the elements, but the Sunday morning weather proved a real challenge during their latest charity effort. They raced a seven-mile route around the pubs on their patch from the Tickled Trout to the Honest Miller at Brook, the New Flying Horse and finally the King’s Head. The team were led home by runners David Dodd in 49 minutes and Sam Teehan, supported by watch manager Martyn Wakelin and crew members Nick Williams, Stuart Peitch and Sam Wakelin on bicycles. Their sponsored effort raised £554 and Karen and Abigail Williams collected another £173 from the bars to be added to the charity funds being collected to celebrate the centenary of the village fire brigade. Events will continue into next year with two-thirds of the final sum going the fire brigade charities and the remainder to Kent Air Ambulance.
