Hos­pi­tals trust has new chair­man

HEALTH Sec­re­tary Alan John­son has ap­pointed a new chair­man for the trust run­ning Ash­ford and Shep­way’s hos­pi­tals.

Ni­cholas Wells now has the job at East Kent Hos­pi­tals Uni­ver­sity NHS Trust (EKHUT) for a fouryear term, cov­er­ing the William Har­vey in Ash­ford and Royal Vic­to­ria in Folke­stone.

Mr Wells was vice-chair­man of the board and has been act­ing chair­man since last Oc­to­ber when his pre­de­ces­sor, Ge­orge Jenk­ins, was sec­onded to Maid­stone and Tun­bridge Wells NHS Trust.

Mr Wells joined EKHUT in Novem­ber 2001 and be­came vicechair­man the fol­low­ing year.

His ap­point­ment, which runs un­til Septem­ber 2012, has a salary of £23,020.

This is a stan­dard gov­ern­ment­fixed wage for a part-time nonex­ec­u­tive chair­man of an NHS trust.
