Pride of par­ents as son gets his wings

PROUD par­ents Kevin and Chris­tine Bar­rett from Wash­ford Farm, South Ash­ford, are cel­e­brat­ing af­ter their 25-year-old son Kevin ju­nior re­ceived his wings. Sgt Bar­rett has suc­cess­fully com­pleted an 18 month Army pi­lot course, which in­cluded Navy and RAF of­fi­cers learn­ing to fly fixed wing air­craft and he­li­copters. Born in Ash­ford, he at­tended St Si­mon’s Pri­mary school, South Ash­ford and St Anselm’s Catholic School in Can­ter­bury. He was an Army cadet at the TA Cen­tre in Ash­ford and re­cently landed there as part of his pi­lot train­ing when the land­ing area was pre­pared by Navy cadets. He joined the Army in 2001 and be­came an air­craft tech­ni­cian with the Royal Elec­tri­cal Me­chan­i­cal En­gi­neers (REME) serv­ing in Ger­many, Iraq and Kosovo. The pic­ture shows Kevin af­ter re­ceiv­ing his wings when he was also pro­moted to Sergeant.
