Pride of parents as son gets his wings
PROUD parents Kevin and Christine Barrett from Washford Farm, South Ashford, are celebrating after their 25-year-old son Kevin junior received his wings. Sgt Barrett has successfully completed an 18 month Army pilot course, which included Navy and RAF officers learning to fly fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Born in Ashford, he attended St Simon’s Primary school, South Ashford and St Anselm’s Catholic School in Canterbury. He was an Army cadet at the TA Centre in Ashford and recently landed there as part of his pilot training when the landing area was prepared by Navy cadets. He joined the Army in 2001 and became an aircraft technician with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME) serving in Germany, Iraq and Kosovo. The picture shows Kevin after receiving his wings when he was also promoted to Sergeant.
