HOT SHOT: Four championship golds for Stella in Ashford League finals night Stellar year for darts ace
THE Ashford Club had an outstanding year in the Ashford Ladies Charity Summer League almost sweeping the board in the trophies.
In addition to landing the Division 1 and Division 3 league crowns the club boasted the league singles, pairs and triples champions and also took the Micky Mouse Cup.
The only club to deny them a clean sweep were the Crusader A where Violet Wood, Julie Epsley and Kathy Goldsmith won the Three-a-side Cup.
Stella Morris was truely stellar this year winning the singles crown, pairs and Micky Mouse with mother Val and triples with Val and Mandy Pope to add to her league title medal.
In the singles she saw off team-mate Mandy Pope 2-1 and removed her mother Val 2-0 in the semi-finals. Mandy beat the Churchill C’s Chris Austen 2-0 in the other semi-final.
Stella and Val took a comamnding 2-0 win over British Rail A’s Chris Breeds and Brenda Prior in the pairs final.
In the Micky Mouse the duo overcame Ashford Club A’s Julie Handley and June Barker while in the triples Stella, Val and Mandy proved too hot for Kay Hodges, Julie Crust and Brenda Prior of the British Rail A.
Stella, Val and Jan Callaghan reached the semi-finals of the three-a-side but the Crusader A threesome took the honours beating Margaret Scorah, Liz Marchant and Ann Wilson (Ashford International).
The trophies were presented by John Wenborn, chairman of the Ashford Charity League with £800 going to the Hospice charity.
