Ashford Town Reserves 5, Ramsgate Reserves 2

ASHFORD reserves sailed through the first hurdle in this season’s intermediate cup with a 5-2 victory at home to Ramsgate. Ramsgate, second in their division and led by Richard Langley, who had a brief spell at Ashford a few years ago, were swept aside by a first-half hattrick by Scott Bouvier. Ashford’s reserves, despite scoring five put in a performance that just did enough, the flowing football now expected from them was there in short spells as they stuttered each time Ramsgate scored only to bounce back and score again. From the first minute Ashford showed their intent. Harrold supplied Bouvier, whose shot rolled agonisingly close to the line before rolling out for a goal kick. But Ashford took the lead on 16 minutes when Harrold supplied the impressive Williams who crossed to Bouvier. His initial shot was saved but he made no mistake with the second effort. Harold supplied Williams again on 19 minutes when he drew the defender and crossed to Bouvier who had time to slot the ball past the keeper. Ramsgate pulled themselves back into it with a fluke goal when a cross from the left was fired into the top corner by Ashford’s John Ralph attempting to clear the danger. Ibrahim, in the Ashford goal, came within a whisker of making a spectacular save but was unable to spare Ralph’s blushes. Ramsgate forced Ibrahim into a smart save low to his left at the start of the second half. The Ramsgate keeper made an equally good save to stop a Bradley King header from a cross by Abbott. Marsh slotted the ball through to King who ran on to calmly slot the ball into the back of the net and continue his fine run of scoring at home. A defensive misunderstanding gifted Ramsgate a second on 68 minutes. Ashford completed the scoring in the 90th minute. Williams sealing a good performance when he latched onto a through ball to round the keeper for the team’s fifth. The reserves now have two away games, the first at Maidstone on Saturday and then a Floodlight Trophy game at Margate on Tuesday. Team:
