ASH­FORD AC’s Lisa Do­briskey has had the sea­son of her life and goes into a well earned rest af­ter this week­end hav­ing re­tained her Great North Run mile ti­tle in storm­ing fash­ion at the week­end. First, the Great Bri­tain in­ter­na­tional re­turns to her home track on Sun­day to start the Gi­vau­dan Ash­ford 10k road race and chil­dren’s races. Lisa fol­lowed up her Fifth Av­enue Mile suc­cess a fort­night ago with victory in the Bupa Great North Mile on Ty­ne­side. She had to over­come ill­ness to re­tain her ti­tle on Satur­day in a time of 4min37.8secs af­ter stag­ing a strong fin­ish to see off the chal­lenge of Ukrainian Anna Mis­chenko and Slove­nian So­nia Ro­man. “I was plan­ning to go for it from the beginning, but I had a cold so sat back and kept some­thing in re­serve,” said the Ash­ford mid­dle dis­tance run­ner. “When you are warm­ing up some­times you feel worse than you ac­tu­ally are, and I ac­tu­ally felt great in the race.” The for­mer South­lands pupil has re­ally come good this yearand es­tab­lished her in­ter­na­tional cre­den­tials post ed by her Com­mon­wealth Games gold medal.
