Flow­ers left at the scene where mo­tor­cy­clist died

A MO­TOR­CY­CLIST died af­ter com­ing off his bike, de­spite ef­forts by a mem­ber of the pub­lic to re­sus­ci­tate him.

Po­lice are now ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses fol­low­ing the fa­tal ac­ci­dent on Satur­day evening.

Just be­fore 8.55pm a mo­torcy- clist was trav­el­ling down Char­ing Hill from Chal­lock in the di­rec­tion of Maid­stone, when his ma­chine struck the kerb and hit a fence just be­fore the junc­tion with Pil­grims Way.

The rider came off the bike and sus­tained fa­tal in­juries.

A mem­ber of the pub­lic tried to re­sus­ci­tate him, but he was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

He has been iden­ti­fied only as a 38-year-old Chil­ham man.

An in­quest is likely to be opened to­day or to­mor­row when he will be named.

Flo­ral tributes have been left at the scene by fam­ily and friends.
