Police car destroyed in arson attack
A POLICE car was destroyed in an early morning arson attack on Ashford’s Stanhope estate.
Police have launched an investigation following the attack on two police vehicles parked at the police station on the estate last Thursday.
A Skoda Fabia was destroyed by fire, but the second vehicle, a Mercedes Sprinter, was undamaged.
The attack happened at about 4am and officers are now studying CCTV footage of the area.
Ch Insp John Frayne said: “This arson attack is an affront to the community.
“Crime in Stanhope is very low at the moment. With the exception of a minority, the people of Stanhope are law abiding and will resent the attack on their police station.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
