Ten ar­rested af­ter spate of bike thefts

ASH­FORD po­lice have made ar­rests and re­cov­ered stolen prop­erty fol­low­ing an ini­tia­tive to com­bat cy­cle thefts in the town cen­tre. Since the start of Septem­ber more than 40 cy­cles have been stolen. Po­lice say a num­ber of youths have been spo­ken to, and 10 lo­cal youths ar­rested and bailed pend­ing fur­ther in­quiries. The neigh­bour­hood polic­ing unit, pa­trol of­fi­cers, in­ves­ti­ga­tors and Bri­tish Trans­port Po­lice worked to­gether on the ini­tia­tive have re­cov­ered more than 30 stolen ma­chines. Sgt Jeff Lawrence from the neigh­bour­hood polic­ing unit, said: “The of­fend­ers have been very de­ter­mined to steal bi­cy­cles and have cut through chains in some cases.”
