Fitting reward for outstanding efforts
THE Folkestone and District Snooker League held it’s 2007/ 08 season presentation evening at the East Cliff Pavilion, with a plethora of titles being awarded .
R. Marie, P. Lawrence, J. Rose, P. Baker, P. Layton and S. Taylor were presented with their Division 1 title, as the Hythe Hurricanes (M. Lanaway, H. Littlejohn, J. Allen, S. Page, L. Gifford and J. Nicholls) collected their runners-up prize.
Hythe Hurricanes made up for their league disappointment by dominating the First Division doubles competition. Mark Lanaway and Stewart Page won the event, ahead of club mates Howard Littlejohn and Lee Gifford.
Matt Morgan, of Riley’s Elite, received the Division 1 award for highest break (73); claimed the Division 1 Singles title with a win over team-mate Adrian Cowell; won the Regent Electrical Singles, beating Howard Littlejohn in the final, and won the John Lea Memorial Plate Singles after beating Derek Smith (Folkestone Hilton C).
NRB Club A (D. Lidgett, M. Dewey, T. Ouzman, T. Knight, J. McMillian, M. Telford) won the Division 2 crown, ahead of Hythe Conservatives (D. Stocker, B. Durkan, D. Greenstreet, M. Wadmore, P. Williams).
There was a reversal of fortunes in the Dennis Bradley Plate, as Hythe Conservatives beat NRB Club to the title. NRB’s Trevor Knight took the division’s highest break accolade with a 44.
NRB Club A enjoyed further individual success as Malcolm Dewey won the Lee Rushworth Singles by defeating Hythe Conservative’s Bob Durkan, and finished second to Brian James (Foco A) in the Veteran’s Singles. Malcolm Dewey, alongside Tom Ouzman, also won the Second Division Doubles, defeating club mates Trevor Knight and Jim McMillian in the final.
NRB Club B, through the efforts of Peter Elliott, won the Division 2 Singles ahead of Bob Durkan.
The Bunny Telling winners were Riley’s Elite (A. Cowell, N. Markwell, A. Morris, F. Godden, P. Bevan, M. Morgan) Saltwood (B. Wire, R. Sylvester, A. Wire, D. Terry, M. Medwyn, R. Twynn, R. Hall) finished as runners-up.
Riley’s were also triumphant in the First Division KO Cup, but it was the Riley’s Rockets who took the crown ahead of the Elite side.
Folkestone Hilton C (D. Oram, D. Smith, G. Mahon, A. Rose, D. Piper, T. Lee) claimed the Division Two equivalent, beating Club Q (C. James, G. Fowle, A. King, S. Horner, T. Smyth, M. Clifford, B. Hutton) in the final.
Tim Allen and Steve Hawkins (Riley’s Rockets) won the Adrian Cowell Doubles K O Cup after defeating Darren Stocker and Martin Wadmore (Hythe Conservatives). Trevor Munnery and Dave Hallett (Folkestone Hilton A) took the Tom Scannell Doubles Plate with victory over Alex Swatton and Daryl Masters (Riley’s Rockets).
Scott Mitchell (Riley’s Crusaders) won the Pilgrims Hospice Singles with victory over Stewart Page.
Richard Knight and Adrian Cowell secured the Invitation Doubles by defeating Nigel Billingshurst and Alex Swatton. Tom Ouzman was Sportsman of the Year and Alric Rose was voted as most improved player.
