FLYING START FOR FULLER AS GILLS HIT FIVE IN SATURDAY’S LEAGUE VICTORY
BARRY FULLER picked up September’s Gillingham player-of-the-month award on Saturday. The right-back polled 40 per cent of the votes on the Kent Messenger Group’s website, kentonline. Fuller helped Gillingham keep a clean sheet in the 5-0 win against Morecambe and manager Mark Stimson was full of praise for his newly-appointed captain. He said: “Simeon Jackson got man-of-the-match and I think Barry Fuller was the next nearest to it. Everything he did was fantastic. “He’s a competitor. You are either the best player or the best competitor, and he is certainly that. “When you win or lose you learn a lot about people. His reaction in the changing room was brilliant and even before the game he called the huddle himself. That was nothing to do with me. It shows what he is about.” The Ashford man has just been appointed as Gills skipper.
