‘Inconvenience’ is the last thing businesses need

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Opinion -

As seems to be the trend with road projects in Ashford, work on the Newtown bridge is taking longer and costing more than expected. Having already suffered the disruption of the ring road works, people in the town have probably come to regard these unacceptable delays as the norm. The county council’s roads chief admits the hold-ups – which he puts down to “an unfortunate set of circumstances” – have “caused some inconvenience”. It is more than unfortunate and inconvenient for the businesses who say their trade has suffered. They now face another 10 weeks of uncertainty, the last thing any businesses needs in the current economic climate. Rather than passing the buck over who is to blame, KCC and Network Rail should sort out this mess as soon as possible.
