Racing with pride

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Opinion -

I WOULD like to thank all the people who supported the local Territorial Army soldiers at the recent Givaudan 10km race in Ashford. It is extremely encouraging to receive such enthusiastic support along the entire route of the race. We decided to raise money for Help for Heroes, the national charity supporting servicemen and women injured during operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. On entering the stadium, the applause and cheering gave our team the boost we needed to complete the race with pride. In times like this, when the armed forces are busy on operations overseas, it is such events and the reception we get that makes our job worthwhile. S. J. Sowerby, Warrant Officer Class 2, senior permanent staff instructor, 133 Field Company REME (V)/103 Battalion REME (V) TA Centre, Chart Road, Ashford.
