THE LOCAL lake at Singleton has again demonstrated that anglers do not need to travel to distant commercial fisheries to enjoy a good day’s fishing.

This lake, owned by the council, but managed and controlled by Ashford Angling Society, holds a good head of roach, bream, skimmers, tench and perch. And on Sunday, in an Ashford AS match, Mark Samson fishing from peg 45 found the bream shoal.

Fishing maggot, on the feeder he produced a winning weight of 36lb 12oz. comfortably beating Mick Ladley on peg 3 who had plenty of the smaller skimmers in his bag of 15lb 11oz.

Third place went to Lou Stone fishing at the other end of the lake who also found skimmers to make up his weight of 14lb 2oz

Early morning conditions were good but a strong cold wind developed later which took the edge off the catches of many anglers.

The next match will be held next Sunday on the Rother at Blackwall.
