Stylish victory for girls

ASH­FORD GIRLS U16s over­came lo­cal ri­vals Maid­stone at Fortress Ball Lane for their first home fix­ture of the year 4-1.

Ash­ford’s young side com­prise of girls from five lo­cal secondary schools. They have a solid de­fence, a creative mid­field and tal­ented for­ward line.

They soon earned a penalty cor­ner which re­sulted in a goal for Har­riet Slegg. Buoyed up by this suc­cess Ash­ford started to play the ball around with more con­fi­dence with nice in­ter­changes.

A sec­ond goal re­sulted from a nice run and solid fin­ish from Natalie White­head.

Ash­ford’s bet­ter qual­ity pos­ses­sion re­sulted in Gra­cie Kings­bury be­ing through with just the Maid­stone keeper to beat.

Af­ter half-time Maid­stone put Ash­ford un­der se­vere pres­sure.

Maid­stone fi­nally got a de­served goal five min­utes from the end. How­ever Ash­ford were not fin­ished and added a fourth through Amy White­head.

This year the em­pha­sis has been on the style of play, the Ash­ford tra­di­tion of pass­ing, mov­ing and at­tack­ing.
