Drop-in service for downturn victims
A NEW style of service to help the rising numbers of people having their homes repossessed or being hit by the credit crunch is about to be launched.
From next Monday, Ashford Citizens Advice Bureau will be offering new clients across the borough a short interview without having to wait for an appoint- ment at its Norwood Street office in Ashford on Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings.
Drop-in services will also be available at the Tenterden office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
If the adviser considers immediate action is needed a client will be offered a full interview at the first available opportunity, which could be the same day and if not usually within the week.
Fully trained and experienced advisers will discuss the problem and offer ways to help solve it.
In the case of repossession this could be assisting with court forms and negotiating with the landlord/mortgage company.
With debts the adviser would look at ways to make offers of payments to all creditors, to prioritise debts and try to prevent any court action being taken, prevent bailiffs taking action to seize goods and negotiating any repayments due.
Ashford bureau is now also able to offer Legal Aid help with employment, debt and welfare benefits.
