LIB Dem leader Cllr Bob Davidson made a passionate plea for continued support to the often unsung heroes of the community. He said: “Voluntary organisations will be in crisis later this year just as the council will be. Last year we reduced funding support and I look for sympathy and understanding of their plight.” He was commenting on a report on the future funding allocated from the council coffers. Currently the council contributes £960,000 a year in funding and rate relief to more than 800 volunteer and community organisations across the borough that the council says make a valuable contribution. But with ongoing service and budget pressure they are to be warned of potential risk in future support from April 2010.
