Barham pleased to re­tain Tour card

TEN­TER­DEN-based Benn Barham has se­cured his Euro­pean Tour card for next sea­son af­ter fin­ish­ing his sea­son with a 58th place fin­ish at the Castello Mas­ters in Spain.

The 32-year-old took home a cheque for 5,600 eu­ros, in a tour­na­ment won by Span­ish star Ser­gio Gar­cia, writes Alex Birch.

“I’ve had an up and down sea­son,” Barham said. “Ul­ti­mately it’s good that I’ve got my card for next sea­son be­cause it means an­other year’s work.

“I’ve had some re­ally good re­sults, like my third po­si­tion in Rus­sia and my fourth in Wales but I’ve been a bit in­con­sis­tent and I missed too many cuts.

“That can be the dif­fer­ence be­tween fin­ish­ing 90th in the Or­der of Merit and where I even­tu­ally fin­ished (110th).”

The Ash­ford-born player will now take 10 weeks off as he awaits the birth of his first child, be­fore beginning an­other year on the Tour in Jan­uary.

ETCH­INGHILL’S ju­niors will take on the club’s se­niors on Satur­day in their an­nual chal­lenge match, as the club cel­e­brates a suc­cess­ful year at both lev­els.

The ju­niors won the East Kent Ju­nior League ti­tle and the Ju­nior East Kent Jam­boree, while the se­niors, in­clud­ing Paul Billings, Kane Saun­ders, Dan Porter, Richard Jones, Paul Hawkins, Tom Hay, El­liot Brown, Mike Bris­tow, Trevor Thomp­son and Chris Lock were run­ners-up to Ch­est­field in the East Kent Cup at Can­ter­bury. 36 points. Howie had more luck when she and nephew Alan Provan won the Mixed In­vi­ta­tion with 39 points from Bar­bara Burchell and Adam Wade.

Ann Day and Peter Woodgate came third on 36 points. Shell Foster and John Fletcher won the front nine with 19 points.

TERRY EADY con­sol­i­dated his sec­ond place in the Ten­ter­den Or­der of Merit by winning the Satur­day Medal ahead of Mark Fer­mor and Mike Vick­ery.

Steve Brig­nall won on Sun­day with a score of 66. Ricky Jef­frey was sec­ond on count­back and David Welsh was third with 67. SUE NOR­MAN (h13) won the Fer­mor won the Satur­day Oc­to­ber Stable­ford and Lady Stable­ford, beat­ing Paul Pres­i­dent’s Prize at Ash­ford Sheer­ing on count­back af­ter with 39 points. Shell Foster both play­ers scored 37 points. (h20) was sec­ond in the Sil­ver Andy Feather­stone was two Divi­sion on 36 points. points back in third.

Mar­garet Olsen (h27) won the Nigel Dixon won the Sun­day Bronze Divi­sion with 37 points, Stable­ford with 40 points, ahead of Kay McKie (h23), who ahead of Eady and Jef­frey. was sec­ond on count­back from Ray Far­rar leads the way Neta Howie (h24). Both scored af­ter five events in Ten­ter­den Vets’ Medal and Eclec­tic com­pe­ti­tion. Far­rar had a net 56, closely fol­lowed by Mike Boughton and Tom Potts.

Hugh Na­tion de­fied the frosty con­di­tions to win the Medal with a net 66. Alan Wood­cock fin­ished two shots be­hind in sec­ond and Derek Boon was third.
