PUPILS from the John Wesley School in Singleton joined the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr John Link, and ward member, Cllr Amanda Hodgkinson, to plant spring bulbs at Singleton Environment Centre. Cllr Link said: “In April, Ashford council was recognised by the BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) in their ‘Green Heroes’ Awards. “We won the regional partnership award for working on the environment centre and this event was a way to mark the occasion.” The BTCV Green Hero awards recognise the difference that volunteers and community groups can make in looking after their local wildlife and green spaces. The prize was a voucher which was exchanged for a selection of spring bulbs and schoolchildren were invited by the BTCV to help plant them at the Singleton Environment Centre. Cllr Hodgkinson said: “I’m sure they will look forward to visiting the centre in the spring.” Bulbs planted included wild garlic, snowdrops, bluebells and wild daffodils.
