ROB PLAYFORD grabbed a hat-trick as Ashford swept aside Winchester 4-2 to move back into the top six of South Premier League Division 2.

The former Canteebury forward was in irrepressible form as Ashford put behind them last week’s 6-2 defeat to title contenders Wimbledown.

Paul Cheap was Ashford’s other marksman while Ben Hibberd and Mark Vowels replied for the visitors.

Ashford’s win was their fourth of the season, and on Saturday they are away to bottom club Richmond, who collected only their third point of the season last weekend.

ASHFORD 2nds squandered a two-goal advantage at Lewes, as the home side grabbed a 3-3 draw with the last touch of the game.

With a restructured side due to unavailable players, Ashford started the brighter and went 1-0 ahead through a James Spain goal.

A fantastic reverse stick effort from Adam Fox doubled Ashford’s advantage before Lewes scored just before the break as the visitors played with a man light.

John Stiff’s strike after the break restored Ashford’s cushion but as their energy began to fade, Lewes surged forward to convert two penalty corners.

Ashford face Old Bordenians at home this Saturday.
