Guide’s calm­ness wins award

KEEP­ING cool un­der pres­sure as her mum went into labour early has earned a teenager an award. Jes­sica Sacco of Bethers­den has been recog­nised by the Girl Guides for her out­stand­ing ef­fort in deal­ing ma­turely with the emer­gency sit­u­a­tion. Jes­sica was pre­sented with her award by county com­mis­sioner Sue Sher­lock dur­ing the an­nual gift ser­vice in front of 500 fel­low Guides and their fam­i­lies in St Teresa’s Church on Sun­day. Those present heard how af­ter Jes­sica’s mum Sam went into labour early at their home in Church Hill the 13-year-old kept calm and helped her step­fa­ther Chris Buck­man and brother Joshua, two, by call­ing an am­bu­lance. She then com­forted her mother un­til Chris de­liv­ered baby Eleanor be­fore the pro­fes­sion­als ar­rived. Then Jes­sica calmly went off to lessons at Home­wood School in Ten­ter­den.
