the lat­est French in­va­sion a team of con­ser­va­tion vol­un­teers have been help­ing plant a Ken­tish wood­land The Ken­tish Stour Coun­try­side Project vol­un­teers wel­comed their French coun­ter­parts, known as Les Blon­gios, for the sev­enth time for a week­end un­der the Land­scapes and Na­ture For All scheme. Four­teen French vol­un­teers joined with 17 English ones to re­plant wood­land on the top of the Downs at Cold Blow Farm, Wye, in the Area of Out­stand­ing Nat­u­ral Beauty. Ash­ford coun­try­side of­fi­cer Debbie Adams said: “The new wooded area will con­sist of oak, beech and ash with an un­der­story in­clud­ing hazel, dog­wood and spin­dle.” Farmer Crispin Beale said: “It was fan­tas­tic see­ing so many vol­un­teers work­ing hard de­spite the ter­ri­ble weather, to recre­ate habi­tat that will ben­e­fit wildlife and the com­mu­nity. “Restor­ing what was once an­cient wood­land to pro­vide food and shel­ter for species as di­verse as dormice and tawny owls couldn’t be more im­por­tant.”
