A NEW school is really setting the pace as it has launched a KM Walking Bus.

Ashford Oaks Primary School opened its doors in September and has been quick off the mark to provide children with a healthy and fun way of travelling in each day.

Family liaison officer Alison Depledge has taken on the job of Walking Bus co-ordinator and the bus has also been backed by Cllr Derek Smyth and Lipscomb Volvo, both sponsors of the scheme.

The Walking Bus was officially launched last month and Mrs Depledge says that it is very popular, adding: “It’s been a huge success and we have 23 children on board, ranging from nursery children aged three to 10-year-olds in Year 6. Already there is a waiting list and we would urge parents to volunteer so that more children can join. They really enjoy using the Walking Bus as they can walk with friends, learn about road safety and always get to school on time.”
