A HAPPY couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends.

Joe and Kitty Cole, of St Benet’s Way, Tenterden, were joined by those closest to them at Chart Hills golf club in Biddenden for their special occasion last week.

The couple met aged 14 and 15 respectively in their native West Ham, before getting married in 1938 and going on to have two sons, Derek and Alan.

Now aged 91 and 92, Mr and Mrs Cole’s secret of a happy marriage remains simple but effective.

Mrs Cole said: “He tells me he loves me and I tell him I love him - we keep the love going between us.

“We have the odd argument but we always end up saying, I love you.”

Mr Cole is a retired boilermaker, while Mrs Cole gave up work shortly after getting mar- ried only to return to part-time work when their sons were older.

They moved to Tenterden four years ago having lived in Welling, Belvedere, Cornwall, Bexleyheath, Hawkhurst and Ulcombe.
