ASHFORD’S Salvation Army is encouraging those in need to get in touch. Officers and volunteers are collecting Christmas presents, particularly for children, and are happy to hear from those families who could benefit from such presents through the Caring for Christmas appeal, which is backed by the Kentish Express. Lieutenant Mark Scott of the Cudworth Road-based branch said: “If you feel in need, let us know. “If you are a family that is going to be without presents for the children this Christmas, contact us.” People have been dropping off presents at Superdrug in County Square and the Kentish Express office in North Street. Mark added: “Val Barkley went to collect some donations from the KE office the other day and was delighted with what she got.” While more donations are welcome – especially good quality children’s toys, as well as tinned food for older people – Mark, his wife Emma and their fellow officers and volunteers are keen to hear from those people so far unknown to them. Mark said: “We are not mindreaders. Unless people let us know, we cannot give these presents out.” The Salvation Army is also inviting those who would like to attend a free Christmas Day lunch at the South Willesborough HQ get in touch.
