A minute later, East­bourne cre­ated their best chance when Liam Baitup pro­duced an ex­cel­lent save from Ash­ford goal­keeper Seb Bar­ton who tipped his shot around a post.

As the clock ticked down, it looked as though Ash­ford would have to set­tle for a point be­fore Spice, who had re­placed Ray, moved off his marker to score a gen­uine poacher’s goal.
