Rising star of the French horn
A CONCERT of music for French horn and piano was the latest Ashford Music Society concert at Norton Knatchbull School.
Alec Frank-Gemmill is a rising star of the French horn and that’s hardly surprising in view of his masterly performances of the Beethoven Sonata in F and Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro, ably accompanied by pianist Daniel Tong.
Daniel Tong’s fine interpretation of two of Debussy’s piano Preludes and Alec Frank-Gemmill’s fascinating insights into the mechanics and technique of horn playing (particularly in connection with the extraordinary piece by Messiaen for solo horn) widened the scope and thus the enjoyment of an excellent evening of music-making.
