Vicky ac­cepts am­bas­sador’s role

TEENAGE sport­ing star Vicky Silk has agreed to be an am­bas­sador for Ac­tive Ash­ford. Vicky Silk, Great Bri­tain ath­lete and po­ten­tial medal win­ner at the Lon­don 2012 Par­a­lympics, is de­lighted to rep­re­sent the bor­ough’s Sports Part­ner­ship Net­work. Vicky, who lives in Folke­stone, is a mem­ber of the Ash­ford Ath­let­ics Club and rep­re­sented Great Bri­tain at the In­ter­na­tional Wheel­chair and Am­putee Sports World Games last year where she took the bronze medal for Javelin. The 16-year-old is ranked three in the world for javelin, 13 for shot and nine for dis­cus, and her achieve­ments led to her be­com­ing the Sportsper­son of the Year at the BBC South East 2007 Sports Awards. Vicky said: “I hope that be­ing in­volved with this pos­i­tive scheme will of­fer some en­cour­age­ment to young peo­ple about what can be achieved when you fo­cus and work hard to­wards your goals in sports.” Si­mon Har­ris, sports op­er­a­tions de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer at Ash­ford Bor­ough Coun­cil, said: “We hope that Vicky’s ex­am­ple, along with all of our am­bas­sadors, will serve as an in­spi­ra­tion to oth­ers to get ac­tive and be­come in­volved with sport.”
