Gerda in search of her friendly English hosts

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Remember When? - by Mike Bennett mbennett@thekm

BACK in 1972 German teenager Gerda Lingschied was in a group of East German girls that came to Ashford to stay with families and she has never forgotten the hospitality she received. Now she is desperate to renew her friendship with the Homewood family, including their daughter Dawn, who acted as her hosts on that trip and wonders if readers can remember who organised the visit. Her search started in earnest last year when she visited the area with her husband and son, staying with Doreen Wilcockson in Brook Street, Woodchurch, during an Ashford twinning association weekend that hosted a group from Bad Munstereifel in the Rhineland. She even left these two treasured pictures she has kept through the years. The first shows her with new friend Dawn Homewood at school 38 years ago, and the second the Homewood family in a group picture. Anyone with information can contact Mrs Wilcockson on 01233 610040

Have you got any pictures from the past that you would be willing to share with readers? If so send them, with brief details, to Mike Bennett, Kentish Express Remember When, 34-36 North Street, Ashford, Kent, TN24 8JR.
