Win­ter sa­fari pro­vides wild start to the year

A WILD an­i­mal park is open­ing on New Year’s Day to give peo­ple an un­usual way to cel­e­brate the start of 2009. Vis­i­tors to Port Lympne, near Hythe, can take a sa­fari ride through the park and see wild an­i­mals roam­ing free as well as en­joy­ing views over the Rom­ney Marsh. An­i­mals in the open sa­fari park in­clude gi­raffe, ze­bra, wilde­beest, ostrich and rhino. The park is also home to 25 west­ern low­land go­ril­las, with the lat­est ar­rival be­ing born just a few weeks ago, two tiger cubs who are seven months old, en­dan­gered bar­bary lions, african hunt­ing dogs and mon­keys. The New Year’s Day sa­fari rides will set off at 10am and noon.
