Help me get in touch with old cricket chums
OUR picture from the past this week comes from former railway works man Derick Perkins from Canterbury Road, Kennington.
It features the cricket squad chosen to represent the National School that once stood at the top of New Rents in the town centre.
Taken during the 1936/37 season, Mr Perkins, now 82, features standing on the right with the other 10 and 11-year-olds.
He believes that team captain at the time Lawrence Marsh, seated in the centre of the picture is still alive, and would love to get in contact with any others from the team that still survive.
He can still recall all their surnames. In the back row from the left are P Howland, A Rossiter, L Gardner, C Rolfe, R Shrubsole and J Barden, and seated are N Hills, D Gardner, Swift and C Grey.
The masters standing at the rear of the group are Mr Williams and Mr Lewis.
Anyone wishing to catch up with Derick can contact him on 01233 624767.
